Scan with FARO

FARO projects commonly contain multiple fixed stations. 01Spatial accepts a ZIP with one E57 per station and normalizes them into one spatial dataset. E57 is a common reality-capture exchange format that can store station images, positions, and 3D points.

FARO data requires neither 01Spatial Reference Boards nor Map Configurator; upload it and start the build.

Capture and register

  • Complete station registration in the FARO project first and remove discontinuities or visible misalignment.
  • Keep neighboring stations within about 5 m, with stations on both sides of doors and turns.
  • Retain each station's panorama and point cloud; point-cloud-only E57 files are not sufficient for visual localization.

Package

Export each station as a separate .e57 and place all stations from one coordinate frame in one ZIP:

Subdirectories are accepted and Portal ignores common macOS metadata. It does not merge stations from unrelated projects or different coordinate frames.

Upload and validate

Create a FARO map in Spatial Maps and choose:

  • Local: select the ZIP from this computer and keep the page open until upload completes.
  • Cloud, recommended for large files: upload the ZIP to a drive supported by the current Portal interface, then provide a direct file link for server-side download.

Select Build. Portal counts E57 stations, validates device metadata, and checks density. When the map is Ready, inspect connections, doorway coverage, doubled surfaces or ghosting, and representative localization images in Space Studio.
