Scan with Matterport

01Spatial converts a self-contained Matterport E57 into a localizable Spatial Map. E57 is a common reality-capture exchange format that can store scan panoramas, camera poses, and 3D points in one file.

Matterport data already carries metric scale, poses, and geometry. It requires neither 01Spatial Reference Boards nor Map Configurator; upload it and start the build.

Capture

  • Cover every production area and add overlap at doors, turns, and room connections.
  • Keep fixed scan stations within about 5 m; use tighter spacing around occlusion or repeated geometry.
  • Minimize moving people and objects.
  • Verify that all stations are connected before export.

Export

Export one E57 that retains images, poses, and 3D scan data. A point-cloud-only export is insufficient. Put that E57 in a ZIP without unrelated projects.

Upload and build

  1. Create a map in Spatial Maps and select Matterport.
  2. Choose an upload source:
    • Local: select the ZIP from this computer and keep the page open until upload completes.
    • Cloud, recommended for large files: upload the ZIP to a drive supported by the current Portal interface, then provide a direct file link for server-side download.
  3. Select Build. Portal validates device metadata, scan density, and E57 content before submitting the job.
  4. When the map is Ready, select Open and inspect Points, Mesh, and camera coverage in Space Studio, then run localization tests.

If Portal reports missing images or rejects the scanner type, return to Matterport and create a complete E57 export. Renaming or recompressing the same incomplete file does not repair its contents.
